Battlereport from the 3rd Badisch Conquest tournament. Game 1 Hundred Kingdoms vs City States (english)

Overview:
Game 1
Game 2
Game 3

The first tournament of the blog and one from very far away, at least from my perspective. Nino, Tjade and I took Friday off to visit Konrad in Waldkirch / Freibug. Since we decided at short notice to leave at 6:15 in the morning, we only needed 7 instead of 8.5 hours and were able to get some sleep and eat deer schnitzel with some of the players in the evening. On the second evening the guests from France were also there and we sat together until shortly after ten and chatted about Conquest with a couple of beers and delicious food.

You can find the key data from the tournament on T3 and on Longshanks.

After my Household Guard Block lost 6 out of 10 test games, I decided to play a different list at short notice and I wanted to try out the Barrage 7 Chapter Mage. More on my thoughts on the list later in a conclusion.

Not quite the list I was expecting, but only 9 cards give me an advantage and I was sure to get the Thorakites relatively early and then always get through the flanks from regiment to regiment with the Crimson Tower Block. Of course Jenny saw that too and first put her warlord in the Thoarkites for Fight in the Shade. damn, so much for this topic. I dont get them early and of course the reinforcements were reasonable in round 2. So work and shoot the markers because I don't like shooting Thorakites with Fight in the Shade. By doing this I also accept that I scored two points less, but for the next round I would score four points and she wouldn't and i know it.

Round 3 there were two heavies for me and only one for Jenny. Since the large hoplite block was already standing and was obviously supposed to roll through the center, I decided in my head to smash it and to liberate the zones from there with my cavalry. We play a total of 10 rounds and I had no time pressure because I really liked my entire position and in the last few weeks I had played a lot of games against two good City States players in Bremen and Bremerhaven where I hoped to have learned all the bad tricks.
Jenny starts as expected and pulls the Polemarch Mobility and uses his Movement 8 Seek new Escort to get into the big hoplites. Immediately afterwards, the Crossbows arrive and wish half of the Tharakites gone. Broken, excellent. So they can charge, but can no longer hit, and I have my one block of Ashen Dawn and the big Crimson block march up in the middle. Bravely behind a block of crossbows that get me the middle mission objective and I get the right one too and I hold my zone with three man at arms against two cows that somehow lost a cow to arrows from the rangers and crossbows and so I go in with enough points Guidance that I can let them come.

In round 4 we both have the rest and I decide to put Ranger and two Crossbows up to take care of the cows in my zone. This means I definitely won't be able to hold the right zone, but with the current lead, good preparation is enough for me, maybe I'll get the big block of hoplites to just die.
I start with the rangers shooting the second cow with a shield and Jenny immediately sends it into the strategy deck. This causes the Crossbows to shoot the Thoarkites' cow in front of the Ashen Dawn and she brings in a titan and the cows with two-handed swords on the left flank, which to me means that on the other flank there is only a titan and the small hoplites and of course the remaining knights appear and when I was building the deck I didn't have in mind that she would have to use the card from the strategy deck when she draws the last card and there were no cows in the strategy deck but the hoplites. So I couldn't withdraw the crossbows for the Ashen Dawn, but the Crimson Tower aka murder ponies killed three stands (?) hoplites. Additionally, the Chaptermage does a comfortable 9 damage to the Titan on the right with the Crossbows. At least, even if I scored two points less than them in this round.

Round 5, Supramacy from the Commander, measured briefly and I won't be able to hold my zone, but it's impossible for Jenny to destroy the object. Hence crossbows, chapter mage etc up, tabs down and just wait and then clean up. Jenny's hoplite block starts, diligently beating the Blessed murder ponies and they get a total of two damage. For me, the Chapter Mage uses his Kiss and manages to leave the Titan standing with two lives. That was a bit unexpected after the last lap. At least I shoot the last cow with a shield, one with a two-handed sword that does two damage to the object beforehand, withdraw my crossbows from the hoplite block and let the Ashen Dawn end the matter bloodily with the popular “club on the head” tactic and bring them with them Head of Jenny's Warlord. Then I think for five minutes whether I should do the batch with rerolls on the Titan with two lives with the big murder pony aka Crimson Tower Block and come to the conclusion that it's crazy, but I won't lose anything if it doesn't work. It works and my Ashen Dawn can follow suit and the other Crimson stay 8.5 away from them. Neither of us scores in the zone.

My Man at Arms are the first to die at the hands of the left titan and my officer, who had just escaped from the Rangers into the Crossbows, is hit with a lot of evil spells and the regiment survives with two lives. Wow, that was close, so I fled 16” forward, basically into the back of the cows with a two-handed sword, but before that I shot one of the cows with the rangers. Soon my rangers will get a cow skull on the base ;) Otherwise their right flank will completely collapse under the riders and Chapter Mage once Ashen Dawn and Crimson Tower make their way to the left zone.

At some point I shoot the last cow and the Titan goes off and eats the officer for a few points, then turns around and boldly faces the Ashen Dawn. Some people die well and the murderer ponies collect the second titan head. Victory for the brave people and ready for game two against the Tontorr!
