Hello everyone,
In May, tournament attendance in Germany was a bit lower due to vacations and public holidays, but there were still two great events in the northern and central parts of the country. This time, by the way, we were spared any tiebreaker number-crunching at both tournaments, as each one had a completely clear and undisputed winner.
Bannerkrieg um Rodenbach Part 5
Due to several last-minute cancellations, only 12 players participated in the Banner War of Rodenbach this time instead of the hoped-for 16. That did nothing to dampen the atmosphere, though! The organizers had generously outfitted every table with original terrain from Para Bellum.
It looked absolutely fantastic and created a unique gameplay dynamic as well: when four large buildings occupy a table, there is simply not much room left for other terrain pieces. In other words, things got crowded!

Platz 1 – Sorcerer Kings
“Mono-Fire” build is currently facing some nasty matchups and is simply outranged by many lists. But this is exactly where the four buildings on every table worked in my favor! They created beautiful choke points where combat was fought in a very “fair” manner. Although, to be fair, the Mono-Fire list’s definition of “fair” is six attacks with Cleave 1, Deadly, and Relentless Blows.
Game 1 vs. Old Dominion (Xhiliarch Warlord) on Echolon
In this match, the Sorcerer Kings successfully lured the Old Dominion forces toward the flanks. Once the trap was sprung, the path was clear to seize the opponent’s zone and secure the victory.Game 2 vs. W’adrhŭn (Chieftain Warlord, Chosen & Warbred) on Melee
On paper, this matchup is not particularly favorable for me. But once again, both sides traded blows with enthusiasm. One of the biggest highlights were the Ghols: thanks to Molten Blades and the right rituals, they performed far beyond their actual points cost in every exchange.Game 3 vs. Spires (Merchant Prince) on Maelstorm
My final opponent brought a list featuring four monsters and a massive block of Clones. Unfortunately for him, that Clone block had a very painful encounter with the Linebreaker special rule: the Mahabharati tore through the enemy ranks and nearly one-shotted the entire unit in a single round.

Der Ruf des Kraken Vol. 3 in Hamburg
Shortly after the Banner War, competitive Conquest action returned to Hamburg. While significantly more players had originally registered on T³, the event ultimately drew 10 participants in the north. Organizers Chris and Benny had to deal with several last-minute cancellations, as many players apparently only realized at the very last moment that the tournament was taking place over the Pentecost weekend. Those who did attend, however, were rewarded with another excellent event, complete with delicious homemade salads and a barbecue.

Army List Hamburg
Platz 1 – Sorcerer Kings Hanna
The Wind Element is dead; long live the Chandavats and the Mahut! After the update, the list took a massive hit (nice feather-related pun, right?). Without Water Markers and Spiteful Wind to help keep the opponent’s most explosive early-game plays under control, the list has become much more demanding to pilot. That said, the Chandavats are still worth every single point, and the Earth Element provides the control tools needed to stay reliably in the game.Game 1 vs. Old Dominion (Xhiliarch list, Forlorn Hope)
In this match, the dice were completely on the side of the Sorcerer Kings. In Round 2, the Sorcerer Kings brought virtually their entire force onto the battlefield, while the Old Dominion managed to roll only a single reinforcement. In Round 3, the same disaster struck again with the OD’s most crucial activation. Unable to respond to the mounting pressure, the Old Dominion army was swiftly removed from the table.Game 2 vs. Dweghom (Tempered Steelshaper, Grind Them Down)
A careless mistake led to the early loss of the Steelheart Djinn, and from that point on, chewing through the D4 units became a painfully slow process. To be honest, it only worked moderately well, and the attrition battle was an absolute nightmare. In the end, victory came down to experience and a pair of flying monsters with Movement 8, which were fast enough to secure the critical zones together.Game 3 vs. Hundred Kingdoms (Order/Feudal list by Marcus, Off Balance)
A true evergreen matchup. Marcus and I play one or more games every Wednesday. We both know exactly how the other builds their deck and approaches the game. We had played this matchup several times before the tournament—which is actually the reason why the Earth Element made it into the list in the first place. A strategically positioned lake and the Earth spells helped hold the line long enough. In the end, the birds and the Mahut were able to crash into the enemy knights with Move-Charge actions and slowly but surely grind them down.Was there an update? [2000/2000]

Closing remarks
May was, of course, an incredibly successful month for me personally from a competitive standpoint, and I’m absolutely thrilled about that. In the long run, however, a true meta report thrives on variety and on showcasing the different concepts and approaches brought by a wide range of players. That’s why I’m hoping that next month I’ll be able to present not only my own armies, but also plenty of other exciting lists.
Fortunately, the prospects for variety next month look extremely promising. June brings no fewer than three fantastic tournaments, some of which are already completely sold out. That means plenty of activity within the community, and I strongly expect that the next report will feature several undefeated tournament players and, with them, a whole range of different approaches and army concepts.

13.06.26 | 6. Eroberung der Scheune in Bedburg: Marco is once again inviting players to Bedburg. Anyone interested in one of the greatest events in Germany should definitely stop by. At the moment, 19 out of 30 total spots are still available.
13.06.26 | Conquest of Asgard 4 in Aschaffenburg: A few hundred kilometers further south, another fantastic tournament will take place on the same weekend. In Aschaffenburg, 20 players are currently registered, but only 11 of them have paid so far. So make sure to secure your spot quickly, as on-site capacity is limited.
I will personally try to attend both events and am really looking forward to meeting many of you there in person.
