Battlereport brave Humans vs Legions of Hazlia (english)

On Mondays we play in Sidequest Bremerhaven and after my Wadrhun teammate unfortunately had to cancel at short notice (he had to work and pay off the mountains of food for the Tondorrs and Drumbeast) we played a friendly game against Nino, who led the confused ancestors into the field. Scenario 2 Declined Flank was played because we wanted to practice for Waldkirch.

My List again:

Both rather nice lists, although the Varangian block worries me. Almost as much as the two houses that share the playing field and the many zones that don't really help my big block. I usually prefer lists with more regiments and Declined Flank is a prime example of why that is.

In round 1 there was only one regiment of Rangers which deployed on the far left with the IO and in round 2 there were Man at Arms, the Household Guard and the Hunter Cadre. This doesn't make me very happy, but at least only the cavalry and the first regiment of legionnaires came to the OD. How I loathe these little tough legionnaires who are constantly in my way, die badly and, thanks to Terrifying, can always be a threat on the flank. But before I comment on the fact that OD has such a good and cheeky mainstay, the surprise came from the size of the Kataprhraktoi block. So far, Nino had never played a big block of it and I was already busy marching up with a Hunter Cadre when suddenly the riders came up appeared. Damn. At least I got four points because Vanguard is cheeky in this scenario.

In round three everything came from me and from Nino a medium and a regiment of Varangians. This bought me time and I became greedy. We chose zones where no points were scored and while my zone with the Household Guard Block wasn't allowed to score, I chose the Hunter's counterpart. These were then attacked first and without Supramacy they unfortunately only hit the 2. With Move Charge a total of 5 damage was dealt to the Hunters and now I gave in to greed and caught my Rangers running with Double Time (yes, I know A lot of people think that's bad, but it's so good. I don't understand all the Spire etc who really forego it) into another zone and secured a safe 8 points for this round and thus the 12:0 in round 3. His Varangians came in the middle, a few legionnaires on the side of the riders and on the same F right flank the block of 5 longbows actually ran in from the flank, aimed and shot two horses. Perfect. So follow up, two-handed sword behind Crimson Tower next to the Household Guard, Man at Arms in the Rangers' former zone and be happy.

Round four came down to one regiment of Kanephors and with the lead and the knowledge that I would score 8 points again this round I made a serious mistake and forgot for just a moment how hard things die from the OD. Accordingly, I planned my move poorly, killed him, left a rider with one life standing and sent my block to fight with the Varangians as support instead of the riders. As a result, everything piled up on the flank and I cursed inwardly when a regiment of Kanephors lined up in front of the Rangers on the left, as Nino had of course already counted the scenario points in his head and wanted to punish my two mistakes. 20:2

Round five I started exceptionally and Rangers use Fluid Formation and Doubletime to get to safety, this round I would only score 4 points and putting everything on the right flank for the breakthrough was foolish. It was difficult to change that again, so I decided to follow the wrong path for the time being.
His Kanephors couldn't charge my Rangers, so he used Move Charge to reach the Man at Arms guarding the edge of my zone and otherwise only moved a little. The riders killed the Hunter Cadre, which I should have activated first instead, and I cleared the way. Of course, his second Kanephors came from the right flank and the Varangians in the middle. Somehow it just fell apart even though we were still 24:6.

On lap 6 I was my own worst enemy and decided not to follow the wrong path to the end. My Steel Legion uses a charge against the Legionnaires, but of course doesn't take them out and I finally realize that I will never break through the choke. On the other side, of course, lose the Man Arms to the Kanephors and almost all of the Rangers to the Impacts, but manage to protect the longbows on the right flank with the last Man at Arms. The longbows thank the legionnaires with many Arcing Fire hits and they and the attached priest leave. My big block turns twice very awkwardly and the Varangians run so far in front that the Crimson Tower could use a Charge Chlash. Since I didn't want to see him put into the Household Guard charges, I just hoped to start (always a bad plan) and the horses surprisingly did 9 damage. I only got two points and Nino unfortunately got eight and I was slowly running out of models. 26:14

Round 7 and actually everything from the activations went according to plan, only the dice results and my own thinking were an obstacle. I started, the guard managed a mighty 5 wounds, but in return only five riders died. Still more than annoying. My longbows and Steel Legion didn't do anything either and I didn't hold any zone while Nino caught up with eight points to make it 26:22

Round 8 I was allowed to start again (is this becoming a habit now?) the Household Guard simply killed the Varangians (it's okay) and I was able to charge into the legionnaires behind them. In my head I had forgotten the Fighting and of course the dying Xhiliarch took the riders with him. So I would no longer be able to win and in the same breath my longbows would be beaten. They fought back for another round and my halberds and two-handed swords bravely killed legionnaires, but I could only hold two zones and Nino could always hold three, although we were each able to refuse one. That's why it ended: 32:38, as he still had four zones in round 8. It's a shame, but I still like my list and will play it again on Wednesday. Currently she is still on the shortlist for Waldkirch and if I hadn't been so stupid, I would have won.
